OUGD404 - Layouts

Module Requirements
  • Blog with tasks
  • Thumbnail layouts (strong collection)
  • selection of enlarged & scaled thumbnails with rough measurements
  • Traditional mark-up with margins, guides, grids, size etc. (hand drawn)

  • What is golden section?
Golden ratio. Irrational number - can't be written down as a fraction. Used throughout nature. Most aesthetically pleasing ratio.

  • Explain what rulers, boxes, folio number, and drop caps are.
Rulers: Measurements in the documents to be used to align the frames
Boxes: Frames - graphics, text & unassigned. Size can be changed.
Folio Number: numbers on each item in each file so each file is easily definable
Drop caps: Enlarge the first letter and wrap the rest of the page text around it.
  • What are 'picas', points & pixels?
Picas: Unit of measurement. 6 picas in an inch. 12 points in a pica
Points:
Pixels: Square element. Single dot in an image. Created ideally for web design website.

Pagination
The process of dividing content into pages both electronically or printed.
