Today I did a laser cutting induction with a few other people. We were shown what stocks could be used in the laser cutter, what kinds of work can be created, and how this happens.
I have previously used a laser cutter so it wasn't entirely new to me, however what was new is how this specific machine works and the different kinds of materials which can be cut in it.
Some of these stocks include:
- Acrylic
- MDF
- Real Wood
- Paper
- Tissue paper
- Lino
We were shown how to set up the machine and work the software on the computer. After this introduction we were given a piece of MDF each and took it in turns to print onto it with a tester file which showed the four different cutting features: Cut, engrave, kiss cut & raster.
Overall the laser cutting seemed like a very easy production to do, especially because the software and machinery is very easy to use. I expect I will be using this form of printing in the future.
