For this collaborative brief I am working with Daisy Conway.
Our three chosen briefs are:
YCN: Oasis
D&AD: The British Council
YCN: Kath Kidston
Why have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?
I have chosen to work with Daisy because in terms of the way we design. This means that when working together we will have a wide range when it comes to concepts, development and fulfilling the brief. She works a lot more with image than I do, and seems to be much more confident in incorporating images than I do. I am more of a type-based designer, so hopefully putting both of these together will give us a very strong and thought out concept and design. My main aim of this brief is to work one on one with another designer and be able to have a final product which best shows off our joint abilities.
What are your specific areas of creative interest in these briefs?
The three briefs we have chosen are quite far apart from one another. The first is a concept for information in an environment. The second is a wide range of branding, and the third is creating a pattern for a very specific audience. They are all asking for completely different responses, which means there is a lot to work with when it comes to choosing a particular brief and a lot to put our design skills into. In particular it seems the three chosen are mainly some form of branding, which I am particularly interested in.
What specific design skills you have to offer in relation to your chosen briefs? How do you intend to use them?
In terms of the design skills I have, I am a much stronger designer when it comes to typography than image. I have spent a lot of time working in primarily type so this is definitely the main skill that I can bring. As well as this I am strong when it comes to layout and presentation skills. This will benefit us in any of the three briefs as they all require presentation boards and a good use of layout to show the proposals in the best way possible.
What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen briefs? How do you intend to use them?
The main non-design skill I have is good time management. I am always consistent in the work produced for previous crits/deadlines, so this will definitely help us get through this brief on top of all the other work. I have recently started to plan ahead as well so this will definitely come in handy.
What will your specific roles be in the collaboration in relation to your briefs?
I think my specific roles through the chosen brief will be keeping us on track in terms on time management and planning when we are going to have elements finished for. As we haven't chosen a definite brief yet it is hard to say what my specific role will be in terms of the designing.
What do you think your individual responsibilities will be in relation to your briefs?
Individually I would like to put all of my effort into this brief and get a good result as the final outcome. I want to be able to say I am proud of the outcome and know I contributed to it. My responsibilities will also include getting the work done for a time best for both of us so we don't start to get behind or off target.
What do you think your joint responsibilities will be?
Our joint responsibilities will be to successfully use both of our design skills together in a way which best gives a response to the brief. We need to be able to work together and make decisions for what would be best for the brief and our response to it, and not dwell on the fact that we're going to have differing opinions on how to take the brief forward. We need to work together well and create an outcome that uses the best of the amount of time we have to do it and is of a high quality.
