OUGD505 - Studio Session 2

At the beginning of this session we were shown a few pieces of work from the current 3rd years, showing what they did for this module and how they incorporated the first two studio briefs together.
From this it became a lot more clear in what the briefs were asking us to do.

After this we were then set the task of planning out from today to the final brief crit, the 18th March, in a form of a calendar or list.
The aim was to help us with planning for this module and for the rest of the year, showing us exactly how much time we have left until the brief final crit and the module deadline. It was also to help our time management and project planning to try get everything done efficiently.

After being given the first studio brief for this module, creating a 16 page publication of research content, we were told to look through the research and focus in on one particular element to use as the base of this publication.
I looked through all the research I had collected and decided that the areas I am most interested in are; Nike, Celebrity endorsements and the sneaker customisation option.
As a research topic the customisation of sneakers is quite small. It is relatively new and not a lot written about it. It is more about doing it yourself without instruction, so this would be realistic to base a 16 page research book on.
In terms of choosing between celebrity endorsements and Nike, these fit hand in hand as Nike invests a huge amount of money into this area of the industry. I am more interested in the trainers themselves than the array of celebrities that are endorsed by Nike, so this is where I have decided to narrow my research down to. Nike sneakers have a clear influence in the sneaker industry and the majority of my research is made up of Nike.
I have decided that Nike is a more realistic point to start narrowing down from.
At this point there is a huge collection of research still to narrow down as Nike is such a large company and has been going for a long time. From this research I could potentially go down many different avenue's, from Nike iconic sneakers, to a range of Nike sneakers such as the Air Jordans, or even just look into the range of different sneakers that Nike supplies now.

At this point my initial thoughts are that I could research into a collection of sneakers, one sneaker for one celebrity endorsement. The alternative idea I have is just focussing on one range, such as the Air Jordan range.
The Air Jordan is much more narrowed down and more resolute, but when it comes to something wide a bit more scope looking in general into celebrity endorsed/created sneaker designs seems like a better option.

After much consideration I have decided that because Air Jordan's is a range, it makes sense to focus on this as a subject. It is a much more narrowed down research topic and means I won't have a massive amount of research to get through to try figure out exactly which bits I want to include. The title I will be working to is: A collection of Nike's Air Jordan's.
