As part of the research into designing a publication I looked into layouts of publications that already exist and how they keep their consistency.
The first book I looked at was 'Grid Systems'. This gave me a detailed insight into using grid systems for different purposes.
I took photographs of the content which particularly interested me and what I think could apply to me while making my publication. The first page was on the use of negative and white space in a layout. I found this particularly useful because it gives a clear explanation on how best to use white space in a layout without making the layout look too empty or unstructured.
This second image shows a visual representation of focal points on the page, and how the eye will move across the page, as well as a grid for the layout.
The two images below show two very similar grids, but one is for just text and another includes imagery too. These grids are very standard grids, built up of squares and small gutters.
The next image is interesting because it is a grid that has been rotated so it is at an angle to the page.
